The return of the “big bubble” Air Max 95 has stirred up the conversation a bit, but by and large, Sean McDowell’s Nike Air Max Plus is still the defining Air Max model of the 2020s, proving popular among casual consumers as well as its always-present cult following. With that, Nike revived another Tuned Air classic in the Air Max Plus VII earlier this year for its 20th anniversary. After revisiting OG colorways like the “Varsity Maize” the other month, we’re now beginning to unpack additional releases slated for the coming shopping seasons.

Here we have the Air Max Plus VII in “Black/Medium Ash/Bright Crimson/Dark Copper,” a rather understated yet still intriguing take on the Tuned Air silhouette. Black TPU detailing sits over a Medium Ash mesh base, punctuated by Bright Crimson hits on the Swoosh logos and heel clip. The 2005-born model’s quirky construction and higher $180 price point suggest it won’t fly off shelves (despite not having seen daylight in years), but for the sizable contingent of Air Max collectors and superfans, its return is quietly one of the more exciting sneaker developments happening over in Beaverton.
