Nike’s history of celebrating global cities stretches back decades. This season, the Swoosh is adding to that legacy with a new “Philly” edition of the Air Force 1 Low, coming in July.

City-themed releases from Nike are a tradition that dates back to the 1980s, when shops in Baltimore pitched the Swoosh on the “Color of the Month” series. Those Air Force 1 styles were available exclusively in Maryland, and brought sneakerheads from other major metropolitan areas like New York City and Philadelphia into town to grab a pair, before the era of online shopping. Over the years Nike has celebrated the history and sports teams of Philly through a number of special Air Force 1 styles, including the 2004 “Liberty Bell” pair, and a later 2007 pack that separated the city into its North and South districts with two colorways. This week, a new take on the “Philly” AF1 has surfaced, bringing a clean look to the iconic low-top. The pair comes in a Light Orewood Brown leather build for the upper, adding Mineral Teal accents for the suede heel tab, outsoles, and Swoosh backing layers. Swooshes are applied asymmetrically, with metallic gold for the lateral wall and Treasure Blue for the medial sides. Each pair features a Philly-branded stamp on the outer heels and insoles.
