New Balance’s latest class of retro tech runners is upon us. The 1890 got the party started, Ronnie Fieg’s New Balance 2011 brought the energy, and the 1954R will soon make it a full house, all three models sharing the ABZORB-cushioned sole unit of the New Balance 2002 as their common thread. And that group is just one part of the equation.
For our purposes, the 1954R has been coming into focus via official looks at a handful of monochrome colorways, first grey, then black, and now Sea Salt. The elaborate mesh, leather, and suede layering reads more muted when colored cohesively, the shoe leaning on textural depth as its primary point of intrigue.
New Balance has yet to officially acknowledge the 1954R, let alone announce a release date. The model is expected to debut sometime later this year for around $200.
