Steph Curry’s well-documented sneaker free-agency has taken an interesting turn of events. For pre-game shootaround on January 20th, the Golden State Warriors opted for a pair of On THE ROGER Fire Pro, the signature shoe of tennis legend Roger Federer. This marks the first time an On footwear model made an appearance on an NBA court.
Ever since the shocking announcement of his departure from Under Armour, Steph has been on a legendary run of footwear choices spanning nearly every basketball brand on the market, utilizing every platform to showcase a diverse taste in footwear. In the tunnel walk, he’s been spotted on off-court classics like the Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 Low and Reebok Shaqnosis Retro. For the actual game, he’s been opting for contemporary models like the Kobe Protro line, the Sabrina 3, the Anthony Edwards signature line, and more.
On is obviously a unique choice given the brand has no real stake in the game of basketball. However, tennis shoes are comparable to basketball shoes in that they’re engineered for quick cuts, high cardio, and multi-directional movement.
Federer himself is a huge fan of Steph’s; it is possible that this pair was gifted straight from the 20-time Grand Slam winner.
