The mistletoe, the Yule log, even Christmas trees; all of these festive traditions cede the #1 spot to the real king of December: holiday hoops. For the NBA hardcores, the yearly showcase is as much a part of the fabric as opening presents, and it’s no shock that the seemingly invincible Oklahoma City Thunder are part of the festivities. Nor should it be surprising that Converse is aiming to capitalize on their star signee’s moment, as “Winter Red” colorways for the Converse SHAI 001 and Chuck 70 are dropping on December 11th.
First revealed via an icy photoshoot starring the man himself, the sneaker of the year contender no doubt takes precedence, not only for its unabashed combo of red exteriors and green accents, but for its intrigue in the silhouette’s history so far. Indeed, while the first crop of colorways we saw from the SHAI 001 embraced entirely monochromatic looks, the “Winter Red” marks the first to take on a two-tone split, albeit leaving its secondary shade to a reserve role to deliver the holiday spirit.
Keeping on that strategic note, the addition of a paired Converse Chuck 70 is another continuation. The “Family Pack” SHAI 001 that poured out homages to Shai’s mother, brother, and wife came alongside shaggy suede counterparts of the historic model. Though the “Winter Red” follow-up breaks with more traditional white sole units, the same St. Nick aesthetics mark it overall, pairing red canvas with a pine green brand under the collar.
The Converse SHAI 001 “Winter Red” and paired Chuck 70 drop on December 11th, retailing for $130 and $75, respectively. The SHAI 001 will be available via Converse.com, SNKRS, and a host of partnering retailers, while only a Converse.com drop is currently known for the Chuck 70.
