Saucony Originals Juxtaposes ‘80s Retro with Contemporary Style in New Campaign

Saucony Originals’ landmark 125th anniversary sees the revival of its athletically designed DXN Trainer. To celebrate the return of the icon, the sportswear brand flicks back to the ‘80s, releasing a nostalgia-evoking lifestyle campaign.Initially launched in 1983, Saucony’s archetypal DXN Trainer was inspired by – and purposefully built for – the short and long distance races that athlete Rod Dixon took part in. Through the decade, the sneaker became an archetype of the runner as well as the sportswear brand, catapulting it to the forefront of the running scene. Going from past to present, Saucony’s new campaign sees an all-encompassing look at the sneaker model. As well as paying tribute to its origins, the visuals explore how classic design becomes a timeless symbol, one that can be constantly reinvented and playfully restyled for the modern day. Within the series of visuals, the DXN Trainer lands in an array of quintessential 80s-inspired backdrops including the sentimental high-school gym and retro home living room. Against these settings, the models feature in the sneakers and casually-styled looks that blur the lines between sporty and preppy with denim jeans, track jackets and hoodies. With a medley of updated colorways, Saucony hopes to reignite this iconic sneaker for functional, and stylistic, use once again.Take a closer look at the reborn ‘80s sneaker in the gallery above.
