Nike Basketball and Kobe Brand have a special collection planned for NBA All-Star Weekend 2027, bringing the Black Mamba to the desert for a four-shoe capsule dubbed “Mamba vs. Diamondback.” Sneaker News can exclusively report that the collection will include the Nike Kobe 5 Protro, Kobe AD Protro, Air Force 1, and Dunk Low Protro, all expected to release in conjunction with the festivities in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kobe Bryant’s “Black Mamba” alter ego has been an integral part of his identity and signature footwear legacy, while the diamondback rattlesnake is native to the Arizona desert. Pitting one snake against another, Nike has created a theme that connects Kobe’s legacy with the setting of the NBA’s annual midseason showcase that fits perfectly with its host city.

Additionally, Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns were frequent postseason adversaries during the mid-to-late 2000s, most notably meeting in consecutive first-round series in 2006 and 2007. Phoenix emerged victorious on both occasions, including a memorable seven-game series in 2006 that saw the Lakers surrender a 3-1 series lead. The two teams would meet again in the 2010 Western Conference Finals, this time with Kobe and the Lakers advancing en route to their second consecutive NBA championship.

While images of the “Mamba vs. Diamondback” collection have yet to surface, the theme as well as the official color specs of Black/Chile Red/Khaki naturally lends itself to an assortment of snakeskin textures and other design elements that could distinguish the two serpents. How Nike will interpret the concept across the four silhouettes remains to be seen, particularly with the Kobe AD Protro that has seldom seen any detailed execution beyond its base style.
