When you’ve dominated basketball as thoroughly and as long as Nike has, the brand’s annual NBA All-Star Weekend rollouts practically write themselves, each city carrying its own weight based on which Nike-sponsored hoopers played there or call it home now. 2027 sends the spotlight to Phoenix, notable as one of just five NBA markets currently home to a Nike signature athlete. Fresh Nike Book 2 styles are a lock (or maybe even a Book 3 unveiling?), but the first confirmed All-Star Weekend release leans retro instead.
Sneaker leaker zSneakerHeadz reports that the Nike Air Foamposite One “Phoenix Suns,” originally released in 2013, is returning February 2027 as one of the year’s marquee All-Star Weekend drops. The shoe first arrived, and will soon resurface, as a tribute to Penny Hardaway’s five-season run with the franchise from 1999 to 2004. A metallic purple shell anchors the design, set off by orange-over-black accents throughout.
Nike originally built the Foamposite One for Scottie Pippen, who famously passed on it. Penny Hardaway then claimed the model for himself after spotting a prototype in designer Eric Avar’s sample bag, lore that explains both the “1 Cent” branding on the backtab and the very existence of a 2013 “Phoenix Suns” tribute in the first place. Hardaway had already moved on to non-signature models like the Zoom Huarache 2K4 by the time he landed in Phoenix, but the homage still hits all the same.
The Nike Air Foamposite One “Phoenix Suns” is confirmed for NBA All-Star Weekend 2027, though the full rollout plan is still TBD. Expect Nike to run smaller local release events in Phoenix before the shoe goes wide. See detailed images of the 2013 original below and keep our Sneaker Release Dates page handy for updates.
