Since its debut late in 2023, the 991v2 from New Balance has been in steady rotation. The Made in England silhouette releases in several new colors each season. This week, the shoe has taken inspiration from Silver Birch trees Fall colors, coming soon.
New Balance 991v2 is a standout evolution within the brand’s iconic 99 x series. The 99 x family, which started with the New Balance 991 in 2001, followed by the 992, 993 and OG 990-series updates, represents NB’s premium running-heritage lineup. The 991v2 retains the original pig suede and mesh construction, but upgrades with full-length FuelCell cushioning while preserving ABZORB and ENCAP support. Manufactured exclusively in the UK, it continues NB’s legacy of craftsmanship and positions the 991v2 as a refined successor in the 99 x series.
This week, the v2 has surfaced in a new color scheme, which hides a subtle nod to the changing of seasons and the current Fall color palette. The look is called “Silver Birch”, named directly for the tree native to Europe and some parts of Asia. The tree is best known for its white bark, represented here by white suede overlays. As the tree ages, the bark cracks to expose a black interior, seen here for the shoe’s inner lining, heel clip, and 991 branding. The finishing touch is the tan base layer and yellow outsoles, made to mimic the silver birch’s signature yellow leaves in the Fall.
