New Balance is introducing a number of new silhouettes this year, with the 1890 already making its debut in collaboration with Action Bronson. This week, the hybrid moccasin/tech runner version of the shoe has resurfaced, sporting three new colorways.

New Balance has been on a roll with their odd, conceptual new sneaker designs over the last few years. The first one that comes to mind is the 1906L, a mashup of their 1906 runner with the construction of a slim loafer dress shoe. Then, during last year’s Summer Paris Fashion Week in June, the brand’s marketing manager, Lee Stuart, appeared at a preview event wearing a wild new silhouette, only known then as the 1890.

Since then, we’ve slowly learned more information about the new model, mostly through Action Bronson‘s brand new releases featuring a completely different version of the numbered model, which are more of a classic NB tech runner. This week, we have another look at the hybrid version worn by Stuart last year, and a new subtitle for the shoe; the 1890A. The model fuses New Balance’s signature tech runner look with the tongues and lacing structure of a moccasin, with a bound edged U-shape being the predominant feature of the shoe’s forefoot. The heels of the shoe are lower than the midfoot, placing it somewhere between a slip-on and a full sneaker. Three colors have been teased this week, a classic NB grey, a tonal dark olive green, and an off-white style with grey accents.

NEW BALANCE 1890A RELEASE INFORMATION

New Balance’s latest fresh silhouette has not been officially announced yet, but with Action Bronson’s debut pair of the 1890 already out in the world, we expect to see these moccasin hybrid models arrive sometime in 2026. Seen here in three tonal colorways, NB grey, dark olive green, and off-white, pairs will likely be available from both NB and select retailers. Pricing for the shoe is currently unknown.
