Could anyone have predicted the dominance of the New Balance 1906R upon its return to shelves? Not only is the model now one of the easiest identifiable in the still-dominant “retro runner” wave, it’s spawned more than half a dozen offshoots, including its fashion-forward 1906L that heralded its own footwear wave.

Now looking towards its fifth year back on the market, the Boston brand hasn’t signalled any slowdown for its titanic performance model. As many of those aforementioned offshoots continue to push the envelope (the dawn of the New Balance 1906F no small part of that), the parent model is sticking to its guns. The mix of black, grey, and silver utilized on this “Metallic Alkaline” pair is one that’s been a standard throughout the sneaker’s lifespan, but that titular neon certainly helps bring a new pantone into its lineage.

European retailers are already selling pairs of the New Balance 1906R “Metallic/Alkaline Green,” so more than likely, a stateside drop isn’t too far off. Be ready for the usual $155 retail price once that comes to pass.
