Many casuals haven’t even heard the name Kiko Kostadinov, yet they have him to thank for helping ignite the retro mesh runner trend we have before us today. The Bulgarian designer played a role in ASICS’ decision to bring the GEL-Kayano 14 back from the archives in 2020, snowballing a trend that’s served ASICS extremely well and helped launch a wider movement across the industry.

Kiko is set to branch out his sneaker portfolio with a Crocs collaboration later this year, but ASICS remains his home base, where he continues to reimagine new and old models in fun, refreshing ways. Here we have the ASICS US7-S GEL-Kinetic Fluent, a new spin on the GEL-Kinetic Fluent proper distinguished by its liberal use of unique patterns. First and foremost is a pattern made up of hundreds of differently shaded circles, appearing most notably on the eyelets, toe, quarter, and rear portion of the midsole around the Kinetic cushioning. The main underlays, meanwhile, incorporate an almost tartan-like pattern. The collection skews standard from a compositional standpoint, relying on a familiar combination of mesh and synthetic leather.

Three colorways of the ASICS US7-S GEL-Kinetic Fluent are set to launch later this month: Black/Grey, Brown/Yellow, and Green/Yellow. February 19th and 20th appear to be the release dates as of this writing.
