Issey Miyake’s sneaker portfolio continues to grow. Following a string of collabs with New Balance on the MT10 silhouette, the Japanese design studio is taking its talents to its countryman ASICS with a new ongoing product series called ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT. First up is a new model called the ASICS Hyper Taping, set to release in three colorways in January.

In partnership with ASICS, ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT promises to study the human foot and develop footwear that brings new perspectives to everyday life, a motto not unlike that of adidas Feet You Wear and Nike Footscape. The Hyper Taping takes its inspiration from the kinesiology tape athletes use to support their joints and muscles, carried by an elastic strap enclosure system instead of traditional laces. Mesh and synthetic leather combine to form the rest of the upper, the layering bearing a strong resemblance to ASICS’ large stable of mainstream Sportstyle models. Underfoot, seven different radial traction zones appear around multidirectional herringbone tread.

The shoe’s low-profile silhouette places it in a trending and competitive arena dominated by cuts like the adidas Samba and Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66. The most fitting comparison is likely the New Balance 204L, another new model that combines multiple ongoing trends with tech runner cues and a low-cut profile. That’s to say there’s a ton of potential for success in this lane if Issey Miyake and ASICS play their cards right.

The Issey Miyake x ASICS Hyper Taping will be available in three colorways: black, grey, and a vibrant green look with multi-color straps and gum soles. Expect a January 2026 release and a retail price in the mid-$200 range.
