Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham is the next Nike athlete in line to receive a signature shoe. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported today that the Detroit guard has agreed to a six-year contract extension with Nike that includes plans for a signature model set to debut in the 2026/2027 season.

Two years ago, Cade’s Pistons were in the middle of the worst losing streak in NBA history, dropping 28 straight games and ultimately finishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. One year later, the same core regrouped and made the playoffs, pushing the New York Knicks to the brink in the first round. Now another season removed, the Pistons are the early leader in the East and Cunningham is playing some of the best basketball of his young career, showing exactly why Detroit selected him first overall in 2021. His stock is rising quickly, and Nike’s decision to give him a signature model makes perfect sense.

Cunningham signed with Nike when he entered the NBA and has consistently favored the Nike Zoom GT Cut line. This season he has worn both the GT Cut 3 and the upgraded GT Cut 3 Turbo, becoming the unofficial face of the series after Tyrese Haliburton’s move to PUMA. Midway through last season, fans got their first look at Cunningham’s signature logo, which uses two interlocking, cartoon-style C’s arranged to resemble a star. Nike has already used the logo on several of his player exclusives (pictured below), setting the stage for his first signature model.
