The Air Jordan 8 Kobe Bryant PE pack resurfaced this week, giving fans a rare side-by-side look at two player exclusives that never made it to store shelves. Sneaker collector @englishsole shared both the white and black pairs on August 24, the annual Mamba Day that nods to Kobe Bryant’s two Lakers jersey numbers, 8 and 24.
Bryant wore the Air Jordan 8 during the 2002-03 season while he was between long-term shoe deals, and that brief run later became the basis for a dedicated Kobe Bryant PE project from Jordan Brand. In 2016, the brand presented him with full sets of Air Jordan sneakers in both white and black, giving the Air Jordan 8 and Air Jordan 3 extra attention since Kobe had actually played in both models that season.
The Air Jordan 8 Kobe Bryant PE Pack Design
The two Air Jordan 8 PEs lean on Lakers colors but take different approaches. The white pair pairs a mostly white leather upper with purple lining, yellow hardware on the ankle straps, and grey suede around the collar, while purple and gold graphics run across the side panels and repeat on the outsole. The black pair flips that formula, covering the upper in black leather and suede while purple takes over the tongue, lining, and ankle straps, and yellow accents hit the hardware and side panels to keep the Lakers connection visible.
Both pairs remain tough to track down outside of private collections. A black Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan 8 set from the 2016 gift was later auctioned together in Bryant’s size 14, closing at $240,100, with proceeds benefiting the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation and the Jordan Wings Initiative. The white Air Jordan 8 has its own rare pairing too, matched with a corresponding Air Jordan 3 for a friends-and-family package. JustFreshKicks will keep tracking both PEs in case Jordan Brand ever brings either colorway to retail.
Why Did Kobe Bryant Wear the Air Jordan 8 in 2002-03?
Bryant didn’t have a long-term sneaker contract that season, so he rotated through Jordans, including the Air Jordan 8, a connection Jordan Brand later honored with a dedicated 2016 PE collection.
Air Jordan 8 Kobe Bryant PE Release Information
Neither the white nor black Air Jordan 8 Kobe Bryant PE has a public release planned. Jordan Brand made both as part of a personal 2016 gift to Bryant, and the only times pairs from that collection have changed hands has been through charity auctions, so a retail price and purchase link aren’t available.
