Converse is bringing one of its oldest sneakers into a new era under First String, the brand’s premium craftsmanship tier. That would be none other than the Jack Purcell, the sneaker born in 1935 and named after world champion badminton player.
The low-profile design was originally created to meet the demands of elite competition before evolving into a staple of fashion and everyday style, often appearing via collaborations with nearly every relevant mover in the world of sneaker and fashion.
For the relaunch, Converse has rebuilt the silhouette through its First String franchise; it features elevated materials and a refined construction while preserving the timeless design from nearly a century ago. The global release of this white and green edition is currently set for September 8th via Converse.com.
As mentioned, the Jack Purcell has served as the foundation for some of Converse’s most memorable collaborations, becoming a favorite among designers and creative partners thanks to its clean, Americana aesthetic. That said, it’s reasonable to expect collab drops with the likes of Tyler, the Creator, Undefeated, Comme des Garcons, and more.
