As anticipation builds for its return to original “Chlorophyll” form, the Nike Air Trainer 1 is celebrating its 35th anniversary with some experimental styles. Having launched in “Coriander” back in February, the sneaker’s utility-makeover is set to arrive in “Dark Smoke Grey” on March 17th.
Although the silhouette’s shape is intact, several modifications appear across the upper. For starters, the lockdown strap that runs across the forefoot is reimagined through the lens of trail equipment, exchanging leather for a canvas and plastic buckle combination. Panels all throughout the Air Trainer 1 boast breathable mesh and lightweight nylon construction, which compliments the aforementioned strap well. A series of curved silver strips around the toe, at the mid-foot and around the heel introduce new, functional reflective capabilities to the 1987 design. Midsoles underfoot deviate from the predominantly “Off-Noir/Dark Smoke Grey” ensemble that covers most of the upper with a rich yellow tone that seemingly nods to the model’s age.
